BOSTON, June 23, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WBUR, Boston’s NPR news station, and the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation announced the launch of the 2016 Kind World Story Contest. People around the world who have witnessed, experienced or shown kindness are encouraged to submit their personal stories and win a chance to have the entry produced into a compelling audio story.
“There’s a lot of good in the world, but sometimes you need a reminder, especially in the aftermath of tragedies like the recent shooting rampage in Orlando,” said Kelsey Gryniewicz, Communications Director at Random Acts of Kindness. “We are looking for stories of beautiful moments of compassion that can be the spark for countless more.”
WBUR’s Kind World is a highly acclaimed radio and podcast series that explores the significance our actions can have on the lives of others. The program spotlights exceptional people who put the needs of others first, such as a doctor who goes above and beyond her Hippocratic Oath to comfort a family through terminal illness. The story, She Remembers It All, was honored with the 2016 National Edward R. Murrow Award for feature reporting.
“At Kind World, we use audio to tell intimate and illuminating stories about the good in our communities,” said Erika Lantz, producer of Kind World. “By partnering with the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, we can encourage even more people to submit their stories.”
Kind World contest entries are being accepted in writing or digital format, and can be submitted through the Kind World Contest page, which is featured on the Random Acts of Kindness website. The deadline for entries is July 15, 2016.
Judging will consist of two evaluations and result in two winners. At least one winner’s submission will be produced as an audio story, and possibly featured on an upcoming episode of Kind World. A second entry submission will be honored with the People’s Choice Award determined by a public vote held via social media. Listeners are being asked to help spread the word with #mykindstory.
