CALGARY, AB--(Marketwired - June 24, 2016) - Due to the overwhelming effects the wildfires have had in northern Alberta, in particular, the Municipality of Wood Buffalo and City of Fort McMurray, dmg :: events would like to announce in partnership with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo that the 2016 Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference (September 13-14, 2016 Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Fort McMurray) will not take place as planned and is now rescheduled for September 12-13, 2017.
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is currently allowing residents and businesses to return to the area, and although the city infrastructure has remained intact, repairs to the city and surrounding area are currently being completed. At this time, there are potentially a number of logistical issues that may affect the quantity of attendees and exhibitors, thus effecting the overall quality of the event. It is important that the transition of people and businesses back to Fort McMurray take priority over the trade show, and all available resources are used towards this prevail.
In lieu of the Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference taking place in September 2016, dmg :: events will be partnering with the Municipality of Wood Buffalo and MacDonald Island Park to organize a charity golf tournament and a community event with all sponsorship proceeds going directly to local organizations including the United Way of Fort McMurray, Food Bank of Wood Buffalo and Keyano College. Organizations interested in supporting these initiatives are invited to contact dmg :: events with sponsorship, prizes and other donations.
"While we are disappointed not to host the annual Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference in 2016, we feel we can better support the community through some fun events and also help local organizations with important fundraising. Without question, the Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference will return to Fort McMurray in September 2017 and remain there for the long term. This important industry event has taken place in Fort McMurray since 1985 and remains an important pillar within the community," explains Wes Scott, Executive Vice President, dmg :: events, organizer of Oil Sands Show.
"Although hosting large scale events like the Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference are fundamental to the economic development strategies of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo; we appreciate dmg's position to postpone until 2017. We look forward to supporting dmg's community based event in September with the understanding the Oil Sands Trade Show will return in September 2017," said Mayor Melissa Blake.
Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference is produced by dmg :: events, the organizer of energy exhibitions all over the world. The Oil Sands Show inaugural event was in 1985. Next year's Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference will take place September 12-13, 2017. Oil Sands Trade Show & Conference will feature a new event structure and feature five key operational areas: exploration, mining, blending and storage, environmental/tailings management and upgrading. In each of the five operational areas, the subjects for event focus and content are turnarounds/shutdowns, maintenance, safety, efficiency, tracking and engineering.
