A Legend and His Legacy: Sober College Mourns the Sudden Loss of Co-Founder Robert Pfeifer

The Man Behind the One-of-a-Kind Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program and the Lives He Changed in the Process

Los Angeles, CA, July 12, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sober College, a one-of-a-kind dual-diagnosis treatment center for young adults based in Woodland Hills, California, announced today that its much-adored co-founder, Robert Pfeifer, passed away suddenly after a heart attack on Saturday, July 9. His uniquely comprehensive approach to drug and alcohol rehabilitation, which includes integrated college academics as part of treatment, has helped and will continue to help thousands of young adults to maintain sobriety while fostering true passion for their futures.

“Robert’s warm energy, vast knowledge, and genuine heart can never be forgotten. His generosity and passion for caring for others was truly contagious, not to mention inspirational. It is this sincere love and care that has helped make Sober College a recovery program unlike any other,” said Mindi Levins Pfeifer, who co-founded Sober College along with her husband. “His untimely passing, while tragic, now inspires us to work even harder as we continue to serve these young men and women struggling with addiction.”

Robert and Mindi started Sober College with a vision of a more multifaceted recovery program, one where young adults could achieve both sobriety and a college education all under one roof. Now, with the unexpected passing of Robert, Mindi and the entire Sober College team are more focused than ever on executing the Sober College vision and honoring his legacy.

“We are all deeply saddened to part with such an incredible man, one whose ideas and innovations have literally redefined how rehab should be done,” said Bill Hazelton, Chief Marketing & Admissions Officer for Sober College. “It was important to Robert that Sober College offer its residents something truly special that they could take with them for a lifetime, and that’s precisely what we’ll continue to do. Whether he is with us physically or not, Robert will continue to enhance the lives of the many residents and families connected to Sober College.”

With more than 26 years of experience in the field, Robert dedicated his life to healing and rebuilding the lives of others. With Sober College, he managed to shift the common perception of rehab as a chore to one of celebration. His belief that life need not end in the wake of recovery (contrarily, it should thrive) is the foundation on which Robert and Mindi built their program. Today, Sober College continues to flourish with an entire family of businesses built on the Pfeifers’ vision, including the Sober College School of Addiction Studies and San Diego Student Recovery.

In addition to being an unforgettable force in the recovery community, Robert was also the father of two children. He enjoyed hiking and yoga in his spare time, two passions that live on in Sober College’s yoga therapy program.
