Bob Woodruff Foundation Announces Spring Grants

NEW YORK, July 14, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Bob Woodruff Foundation today announced grants of nearly $2.7 million, awarded to innovative nonprofit programs meeting the continuing—and evolving—needs of impacted veterans, service members and their families.

"We honor all that our returning heroes and families have done, when we focus on all that they still can do," said Anne Marie Dougherty, executive director of the Bob Woodruff Foundation. "These grants not only help veterans recover from their injuries, they empower them to find a new purpose as they begin the next chapter in their lives."

More than two-dozen programs were awarded grants, after a competitive review. Beyond the individual merits of each program, grants were awarded based on specific issue areas that are emerging or insufficiently supported by the public and private sector and identified as strategic priorities for the Bob Woodruff Foundation to fund.

The grants are projected to impact the lives of approximately 234,000 injured service members, veterans and their families in all 50 states—and for the first time, promote healing and cooperation with our coalition partners.

"With all the issues our veterans face, it's important to drill beneath the surface to fully understand and address their needs," said Dougherty. "We're focused on providing support that sustains, offering long-term solutions with a collaborative, holistic approach."

The grants address a myriad of critical issues: entrepreneurship and employment at various points of recovery; research and treatment for traumatic brain injury and post-traumatic stress; suicide prevention; military sexual trauma; and resources to ease the often overlooked struggles of caregivers and children.

The foundation's ability to find, fund and shape these programs stems from a decade's worth of experience.
