The scholarship was created in remembrance of Eric Dostie, a boy with hemophilia who was tragically murdered on August 27, 1994, at the young age of 5. Eric inspired many lives with his uplifting joy, humor and unending love. His family recalls his aspirations of becoming a scientist and inventing a cure for hemophilia in the form of a "chocolate pill."
Founded in 1994, the Eric Dostie Memorial Scholarship has supported many bright and talented students in reaching their goals of higher education. Scholarship candidates are required to submit an essay describing how their education will be used to serve humanity and encourage self-improvement and enrichment. Every year, the recipients are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service and financial need.

This year's recipients, each awarded a scholarship of $1,000 for education expenses, include Taha Ahmed, Breanna Bucco, Victoria Canton, Calvin Dutcher, Kenadie Hamblin, Mackenzie Hebert, Justin Horbacz, Malia Jackson, Angela Kessler and Mitchell Zeiter.
