AppliedMicro Announces X-Gene® Technology Now Available in HPE StoreVirtual 3200

X-Gene® Server-on-a-Chip Solution® Selected for Next-Generation StoreVirtual Storage Platform

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 15, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (NASDAQ:AMCC), a global leader in computing and connectivity solutions, today announced that Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has incorporated AppliedMicro’s X-Gene® technology in its new HPE StoreVirtual 3200 virtualized infrastructure solution.

The HPE StoreVirtual 3200 is bringing enterprise storage data services to the entry space with a modern architecture that eliminates technology dead ends. This next generation entry storage array starts at $6K and features a new dual-controller, high-availability platform with 64-bit ARM AppliedMicro X-Gene controllers, and comes with either 25 hot pluggable SFF drive bays or 12 hot pluggable LFF drive bays. Building on this innovative hardware foundation, the solution uses the proven StoreVirtual OS which has been deployed over 200,000 times with five-nines availability.

“This latest collaboration with HPE to deliver a flexible and reliable storage platform featuring high availability underscores the continued growth of X-Gene-based platforms in the enterprise,” said Kumar Sankaran, associate vice president of software and platform engineering, AppliedMicro. “The AppliedMicro X-Gene device is a perfect fit for the HPE StoreVirtual 3200 storage server as it provides excellent storage performance and lowers the overall total cost of ownership. We’re excited to continue our partnership with the worldwide leader in storage.”

The storage system features integrated 10GbE networking and an additional 10/100 management Ethernet. For added flexibility, the solution can scale-up with the addition of drives to an existing enclosure or by adding more drive enclosures. Additional system level features include fiber channel SAN with a switched fabric, RAID for data protection and rich data services including snapshots, automated sub-lun tiering software and replication capabilities. The system also provides a web based management interface.

HPE chose AppliedMicro’s X-Gene 64-bit Server on a Chip® Solution because it provides a powerful computing engine combined with multiple integrated 10GbE and 1GbE networking and multiple PCIE Gen 3 lanes for storage expansion, all in one single socket. This obviates the need for external additional networking and IO components on the board, reducing the overall power and cost of the platform and ultimately providing total cost of ownership (TCO) savings to end customers.

“Customers of all sizes are looking to get more value from storage investments,” said Vish Mulchand, senior director, product management and marketing, storage, Hewlett Packard Enterprise. “By driving down costs with new hardware innovation we can bring StoreVirtual enterprise-class capabilities to an entirely new segment at an extremely aggressive price.”
