PARC, a Xerox company, Announces Alex Hegyi as Recognized Honoree of MIT Technology Review’s 2016 INNOVATORS UNDER 35

Palo Alto, CA, Aug. 23, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- PARC, a Xerox company, today announced that PARC’s Alex Hegyi has been recognized as an inventor for his work in the field of computer and electronics hardware. MIT Technology Review revealed its annual list of Innovators Under 35. For over a decade, the global media company has recognized exceptionally talented technologists whose work has great potential to transform the world.

“We’re excited about this prestigious recognition for Alex, a very talented scientist,” said PARC CEO Stephen Hoover. “This new hyperspectral imaging camera literally changes how we see the world, at a breakthrough cost and size. The capability to understand the world in new ways at a much lower cost will help democratize entire industries, revolutionizing the way people work and play. As part of the global Xerox Innovation team, PARC and our exceptional researchers are working on a number of technologies that will improve the way people and machines work together.”

Alex’s invention of a fundamentally new approach to hyperspectral imaging will dramatically reduce the cost and size barriers previously associated with the technology. As a result, hyperspectral imaging can be used in many new industries, and we may soon see hyperspectral cameras on a range of handheld devices.

“A wide variety of industries, including agriculture, medicine, and defense, will be able to utilize the technology,” said Hegyi. “Established organizations and startups alike will be able to identify and quickly implement new use cases, creating more services for customers, and even spawning new businesses.”

“Over the years, we’ve had success in choosing young innovators whose work has been profoundly influential on the direction of human affairs,” says editor in chief and publisher Jason Pontin. “Previous winners include Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the cofounders of Google; Mark Zuckerberg, the cofounder of Facebook; and Jonathan Ive, the chief designer of Apple. We’re proud of our selections and the variety of achievements they celebrate, and we’re proud to add PARC’s Alex Hegyi to this prestigious list.”

This year’s honorees will be featured online at www.technologyreview.com starting today, and in the September/October print magazine, which hits newsstands worldwide on August 29. They will appear in person at the upcoming EmTech MIT conference October 18–20 in Cambridge, Massachusetts (www.EmTechMIT.com).
