Canon Heralds Release of the 5D Mark IV DSLR; Pre-Order Now

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - August 25, 2016) - B&H Photo shares the announcement of the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, the highly-anticipated update to the venerable 5D-series of full-frame DSLRs. This new model delivers a redeveloped 30.4MP full-frame CMOS sensor and updated DIGIC 6+ image processor, realizing an improved sensitivity range up to a native ISO 32000, which is expandable to ISO 102400; a faster 7 fps continuous shooting rate; and DCI 4K video recording at 30 or 24 fps.

Complementing the advanced imaging capabilities is an updated 61-point AF system, which incorporates 41 cross-type points, and all points are compatible with apertures down to f/8 to benefit working with teleconverters and telephoto lenses. When working in live view for stills or movie recording, a Dual Pixel CMOS AF system enables quick, responsive focus control for smooth continuous focusing well-suited to video recording. This focusing system works in concert with the new 3.2" 1.62m-dot LCD's touchscreen interface, which supports tap-to-focus adjustments, as well as familiar pinch and swipe controls to suit all aspects of the shooting workflow.

Among other features designed to boost image quality, this 5D uses a 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor for accurate and consistent results. A new Dual Pixel RAW mode utilizes the unique dual photodiode structure inherent to the Dual Pixel CMOS design, and records nearly twice as much data with stills, to permit micro adjustments and corrections to apparent sharpness, bokeh, and removal of ghosting. The body of the 5D Mark IV has been updated with improved weather sealing and dust resistance, and now also features built-in Wi-Fi with NFC, as well as integrated GPS.

The EOS 5D Mark IV is available as a body only, in a kit with the EF 24-70mm f/4L IS USM lens, or in a kit with the new EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM lens.

Announced simultaneously with the 5D Mark IV is a pair of updated L-series zooms, beginning with the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM. As a successor to one of the most popular lenses in the EF lineup, this new version sees an improved optical design to enhance peripheral brightness; an Air Sphere Coating has been added to reduce ghosting and flare; and a fluorine coating has also been applied to exposed elements to aid in cleaning, and to protect against dust and moisture. A four stop effective Image Stabilizer minimizes the appearance of camera shake throughout the wide-to-short-tele zoom range. The lens both an internal focusing design and ring-type USM AF system, and a ten-blade circular diaphragm is also incorporated, to produce smooth bokeh.

Also being announced is the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM, another update to an extremely popular lens. An all-new optical design is being used in this version, which includes a pair of aspherical elements to realize significant improvements in edge and corner sharpness, and both Air Sphere and Subwavelength Coatings, to noticeably reduce flaring and ghosting. A fluorine coating has been applied to the front and rear lens surfaces, and a weather-resistant design make this lens highly suitable for outdoor and nature applications.

This SD-card-shaped 802.11b/g/n module is designed specifically for the EOS 7D Mark II, 5DS, and 5DS R cameras, and allows for wireless image transfer from all cameras, MP4 video transferring from the 7D Mark II, and remote stills shooting and settings control from a linked mobile device. Shooting and image transfer over Wi-Fi is also possible from a computer, using EOS Utility.
