SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwired - August 30, 2016) - Farsight Security, Inc. today announced that its Passive DNS data was used to detect and respond to potential cyberthreats against American athletes and stakeholders at the international sporting event in Rio, Brazil earlier this month, in cooperation with the Sports Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (Sports-ISAO)'s recent Watch Floor operations. The real-time operations were hosted by the Colorado National Guard's Northern Colorado Readiness Center.
Launched earlier this month, Sports-ISAO was founded by the Cyber Resilience Institute (CRI) to advocate cybersecurity for both amateur and professional sports through threat intelligence and information sharing. Sports-ISAO is designed around public-private partnerships with government agencies as well as commercial companies such as Farsight Security.
"As we have seen first-hand, cyberattacks can have a devastating financial and reputational impact on an athlete or sports team. Threat actors posed a serious threat to the success of the recent international sporting event in Brazil. By combining a high-level threat intelligence team with cutting-edge technology partners, such as Farsight Security, we were able to gain valuable, actionable intelligence about cyberattacks around the world," said Jane Ginn, Board Member and Corporate Secretary/Treasurer for the Cyber Resilience Institute. "Thanks to Farsight, we were able to cover new threats and our inaugural Watch Floor operation was a success."
Farsight Security delivers the world's largest real-time actionable threat intelligence information on how the Internet is changing and how it's being used, seeing more than 200,000 DNS-related observations per second. Security analysts around the globe use this information to provide critical context to existing threat data to increase detection and mitigation of today's Internet security threats.
"Farsight Security is proud to be a charter partner for Sports-ISAO and to have played a role in securing the American participation at the international sporting event earlier this month in Brazil. Today no industry -- including sports -- is immune to cyberattacks. To best defend against these attacks, organizations need access to real-time Internet intelligence. We look forward to continuing to work with Sports-ISAO to protect other upcoming amateur and professional sporting events and promote cybersecurity best practices," said Dr. Paul Vixie, CEO, Farsight Security, Inc.
