VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - Oct. 4, 2016) -
Editors Note: There is one photo accompanying this press release.
WHAT: Avaaz will be parking a flat bed "Stop Trump" truck outside the new Trump Tower in downtown Vancouver to launch a major new campaign to mobilise American expats across Canada to register and vote. Some 8 million Americans live abroad -- at least a million in Canada, with the largest concentration in Vancouver -- but only 12% of them vote.
There'll be classic American tunes blaring from the truck, bedecked with giant 'STOP TRUMP' banners and American paraphernalia, a Donald Trump impersonator wearing an oversized papier-mâché Trump head, and Americans and Canadians with their faces painted with Canadian/American flags. The truck will be equipped with iPads and voting booths where US citizens will be using Avaaz's new quick and easy tool to register to vote, and where Canadians can share the tool with all their American friends living in Canada.
WHEN: Wednesday, October 5 at 12.30pm local time.
WHERE: Trump International Hotel & Tower, 1161 West Georgia Street, Vancouver, British Columbia V6E 0C6. Outside main entrance on the street.
WHO: Dozens of Avaaz supporters, US students and other American expats will join the event. Many will be available for interview, and can be filmed / photographed registering via the Avaaz tool on iPads aboard the bus.
Avaaz's spokesman, Joseph Huff-Hannon, will be available for interview at the rally.
We've launched actions just like this around the world -- from London to Berlin to Mexico City -- places where large numbers of US expats live.
