NEW YORK, Oct. 04, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Thinning hair and baldness can now be a thing of the past as numbers released in this year’s International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS) show. Men and women who experience alopecia, baldness or thinning are saying “no more” and electing hair transplants as a viable option. Also interesting are the areas, like facial hair, that are showing successful results from this growing procedure.
Hair Transplant Surgeries Increase Dramatically in 2015: | |||||||||

Hair Transplant | 134,019 | 115,946 | 15.60 | % |
Men have always looked for ways to restore hair and now women who experience loss are electing this procedure. Hair transplant surgery instills confidence to an area that most men and women deem the most important in looking and feeling young, and they are taking matters to the professionals.
Males make up the majority at 80.3% or 107,611 of overall surgeries with women claiming a large percentage at 19.7% or 26,409 surgeries. India ranks highest with 29.6% of total procedures or 39,625 followed by Brazil at 6.8% or 9,075. A deeper look shows that in India, facial hair is prevalent and accounts for many of the surgeries. The results are available on the ISAPS website http://www.isaps.org in the News section, and discussed in the annual global Conference in Kyoto, Japan, October 23-27, 2016.
“It’s amazing how much this number has grown in a year,” notes Susumu Takayanagi, MD, ISAPS president. “With advancements in this highly technical procedure, patients are seeing better results and choosing to do something about bald spots or thinning areas. It’s also interesting to note that India is the country with the highest number of procedures,” he states. Those attending the ISAPS conference in October will be introduced to the first FDA cleared follicular unit harvesting and implantation system by NeoGraft. This new leading edge technology is the most advanced technique in the hair transplant industry and surgeons will be able to take this knowledge back to their practices. While at the conference, they will be immersed in the juxtaposition of Kyoto’s rich heritage and beautiful modern amenities.
This collection of information of surgeries and non-surgical treatments from 2015 was tabulated from a single-page questionnaire sent to approximately 35,000 plastic surgeons in the ISAPS database. ISAPS is the only organization that collects this type of data on a global scale and the study is viewed as a valuable resource in the field. The International Survey on Aesthetic/Cosmetic Procedures Performed in 2015 was compiled, tabulated, and analyzed by Industry Insights, Inc. http://www.industryinsights.com, an independent research firm based in Columbus, OH.
