CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Oct. 19, 2016) - ATCO celebrated the completion of its workforce housing lodge for BC Hydro's Site C Clean Energy Project today. The 650,000 sq. ft. facility was delivered on time, on budget and with an outstanding safety record. The lodge was completed in less than 13 months, with ATCO's highly skilled crews performing almost 1.4 million hours of work without a single lost-time injury.
"Safely and efficiently developing premier, integrated infrastructure solutions is our hallmark," said Steve Lockwood, President & Chief Operating Officer, ATCO Structures & Logistics. "By using pre-fabricated modular construction technology to build the facility, we completed the project in half the time it would have taken with traditional construction."
Featuring a hair salon, convenience store, coffee shop, gymnasium, lounge, and single-occupancy bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, the lodge will accommodate more than 1,600 workers involved in the construction of the Site C project. ATCO will also be providing operational support at the lodge, including food service, janitorial, maintenance and other site services.
ATCO created 360 jobs on-site near Fort St. John including electricians, carpenters, HVAC technicians, cooks, front desk clerks and dish washers. The company also employed several people from local Indigenous communities, representing nearly 20 per cent of ATCO's workforce on the project.
