Great Plains Communications assists Advanced Communications Technology (ACT) and Hurricane Electric in their quest to bring highly-anticipated Tier One access to Wyoming

BLAIR, Neb., Oct. 19, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Great Plains Communications, the largest middle-mile and last-mile provider in Nebraska has partnered with full-service communications solutions provider, ACT to transport the global Hurricane Electric network into the ACT Data Center in Cheyenne, Wyoming. This new point of presence (POP) makes Hurricane Electric the first and only Tier One network provider in the Wyoming area.

The transport took place over the Great Plains Communications diverse fiber route from Nebraska to Cheyenne, Wyoming. This is just one of several unique, low-latency routes on the 8,000-mile Great Plains Communications network.

"Local businesses, ISPs and other network providers have been patiently awaiting the arrival of Tier One connectivity," Said Todd Foje, CEO of Great Plains Communications. "We were pleased to work with ACT who has been a diligent advocate for this level of connectivity in Wyoming. The partnership was a good fit, opening up Wyoming to the world and the world to Wyoming."

This new Wyoming connectivity will allow regional enterprise customers, service providers, and carrier customers across these networks access to Hurricane Electric's global IPv4 and IPv6 network, access to the diverse Great Plains Communications routes to Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and of course, the ACT Wyoming and Montana footprint with handoffs scaling from 1 Gigabit to 100 Gigabit.

"The presence of a major Tier One such as Hurricane Electric in ACT's footprint, combined with the expansive network Great Plains Communications offers, brings a world of opportunities to Wyoming and the surrounding region," said Advanced Communications Technology (ACT) General Manager, Aaron Sopko. "The partnership established with Great Plains Communications adds a tremendous amount of diversity to our network, opening new routes and opportunities through Wyoming and the surrounding states in the region. We look forward to working with them to bring a whole new level of connectivity to the area."
