TORONTO, ON--(Marketwired - November 14, 2016) - Louis Riel was the great Métis leader and Father of Confederation executed by the Canadian government on November 16, 1885, for leading the Northwest Resistance in defense of Métis rights. Louis Riel Day is held annually on November 16 to commemorate Riel, celebrate Métis culture and recognize Métis contributions to Canada. Among the Louis Riel Day events being held in Métis communities across Ontario, the Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) is holding the provincial Louis Riel Day ceremony at Queen's Park:
- 11:45 am -12:55 pm - Provincial Louis Riel Day Ceremony at Northwest Rebellion Monument in Queen's Park. Highlights will include:
- Address by Margaret Froh, President of the Métis Nation of Ontario
- Greetings from the Honourable Dave Levac, Speaker of the Ontario Legislature
- Greetings from Honourable David Zimmer, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation
- Greetings from Norm Miller, PC Critic for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation
- Greetings from France Gélinas, NDP Critic for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation
- Address by Jean Teillet, a Métis lawyer and descendent of Louis Riel's family

Note: President Froh will also be participating in a flag raising ceremony being held on front lawn of the East Block of Parliament in Ottawa at 8:00 am on November 16.
