“The addition of this 40-watt, highly differentiated, ultra-high power wireless charging capability to Semtech’s LinkCharge platform makes our robust and scalable wireless charging technology available for products of all sizes and power requirements,” said Ruwanga Dassanayake, Product Line Manager for Semtech’s Power and High-Reliability Products Group. “One of the unique features that sets LinkCharge 40 apart is that its transmitter is backwards compatible, supporting Qi-enabled phones while maintaining small form factor at both ends of the solution.”
The high power system architecture of the LinkCharge 40 uses a flexible firmware-based approach and proprietary communication protocol between the transmitter and receiver at 40 watts and uses the WPC (Wireless Power Consortium) or Qi standard protocol at lower power.
“Implementations of the latest Qi specification deliver up to 15 watts of wireless power,” said Menno Treffers, Chairman of the Wireless Power Consortium. “Semtech now demonstrates that it is possible to deliver considerably more power while maintaining compatibility with existing Qi power receivers. We welcome this extension to the Qi ecosystem.”
