FUSO Launches New Gasoline Cabovers Powered by PSI 6.0L Engines

New FE Series to provide unmatched power and versatility for gasoline-powered trucks

WOOD DALE, Ill., March 30, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Power Solutions International, Inc. (PSI) (NASDAQ:PSIX), a leader in the design, engineer and manufacture of emissions-certified, alternative-fuel power systems, today announced that Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America, Inc. (FUSO) has launched a new series of medium-duty cabover trucks powered by PSI 6.0-liter gasoline engines. FUSO debuted the new FE Series gasoline powertrains at this year’s NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis.

The addition of gasoline engines to the FUSO line reflects a significant expansion of FUSO’s commercial truck product line, with three new models, the FE130, FE160 and FE180. All three utilize a PSI-GMPT Vortec Series 6.0-liter V8 engine, coupled with an Allison 1000 6-speed automatic transmission.

“We’re pleased to join forces with industry leaders like FUSO, Allison and GM to develop this best-in-class product,” said Gary Winemaster, CEO and President of PSI. “Our collaboration offers the medium-duty truck market an attractive package combining strong performance and favorable economics.”

FUSO will offer the new FE Series models in Class 3, 4 and 5, creating the industry’s only Class 5 gasoline-powered model. According to Jecka Glasman, FUSO’s president and CEO, they will be the only gasoline trucks in their class to offer PTO (power take-off) capability.

“We have partnered with PSI, General Motors Powertrain and Allison to provide what we believe will be the most competitive gas-powered medium-duty cabovers in the market,” said Mr. Glasman. “This exclusive engine/transmission package will provide unmatched power and versatility for our customers, and the Class 5 FE180 will offer the largest payload available in a gas-powered medium-duty truck.”

The new models will also be the first FUSO vehicles to be assembled in the United States. Daimler’s Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation will perform the work at its Gaffney, SC plant, using PSI engines built in Wood Dale, IL.

FUSO has scheduled customer trials for the new FE Series gas trucks for the fourth quarter of 2017, with a full market launch to follow in the first quarter of 2018, as 2019 model year.
