BEDMINSTER, NJ--(Marketwired - May 23, 2017) - With the Stanley Cup playoffs in full swing, the timing could not have been better for The Investment Center, Inc., to have a two-time Stanley Cup Champion close its third annual National Education Conference (NEC) last week. Bill Clement, who won the Cup twice with the Philadelphia Flyers, closed the independent broker-dealer's conference with a motivating speech that left the advisors laughing and inspired.
CEO, Ralph DeVito explained:
"We cover a great deal of material at the conference, and we like to finish with a speaker who will invigorate our advisors to return to their practice and implement something they learned. Bill did just that."
The conference, held in Philadelphia May 15th - 18th, included a wide array of sessions including a particularly lively panel discussion on leveraging the latest advisor technology.
Nicola Sutton, Director of Marketing, who hosted the panel stated:
"There is a myriad of advisor technology out there, and by using it correctly, an advisor can personalize the client experience, streamline back-office processes, and ultimately unlock growth. The advisor panel helped share some of the best practices we see in this area."
A new Cybersecurity Initiative, announced at the conference, will provide advisors with awareness training, a resources section on The Investment Center website, webinars, and other tactics to limit the risk of attack.
Rob Fernandes, The Investment Center's Cyber Security Officer, who gave a presentation on the topic, explained:
"Last weekend's massive worldwide ransomware attack proves how vigilant we must be. There are constant and significant threats and The Investment Center is committed to doing everything possible to protect ourselves, our advisors, and their clients."
The DOL legislation and the possible impact on advisors' businesses was a constant topic of conversation during the event. Jason Roberts, president of the Pensions Resource Institute who partnered with The Investment Center last year, highlighted the firm's readiness to comply with the rule during a mainstage presentation.
Other key highlights from the conference included several educational sessions, networking events, and a Keynote from Matt Oechsli, CEO of The Oechsli Institute and a leading authority on attracting, servicing, and developing loyal affluent clients.
Before the start of the conference, The Investment Center's Women Advisors Group gathered for a luncheon to discuss their goals for the year and plan the 2017-2018 group calendar.
The event closed with an awards dinner where the prestigious Ralph S. DeVito Award was presented. The annual award, which recognizes one advisor for exceptional client relations, support of the community, and overall business development, was presented to John Broderick, a financial advisor from Bedminster, NJ.
Mr. DeVito said:
"With pride, we honor John with the Ralph S. DeVito Award. As a result of his long-lasting client relationships and strong community ties, John has experienced continued business growth. Everyone at the home office agrees John is a pleasure to work with and we look forward to supporting him in his future endeavors."
During his closing remarks, Mr. DeVito announced the location of next year's event will be Nashville, TN.
