Toronto, June 05, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Tarion’s second webcast-only Annual Public Meeting (APM) on May 30, 2017, was an unprecedented success, reaching consumers and builders across the province, the country and even across the globe.
More than 1,800 people registered for the meeting, signing on from Windsor to Thunder Bay to Cornwall and many points in between. The event also drew participants from other parts of the country – including St. John’s, Montreal, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver and Iqaluit – as well as from international cities, including Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Lahore, London and Port-au-Prince.
“When we decided last year to make our Annual Public Meeting more accessible, we were thrilled with how many people we reached online to talk about Tarion’s achievements,” says Howard Bogach, President and CEO of Tarion. “This year, we enjoyed even greater participation – not only from Ontarians but from registrants in other parts of Canada and the world.
“This unprecedented response reaffirms our commitment to breaking down barriers and reaching as many consumers and builders as possible through a virtual APM.”
Tarion’s Warranty Services staff fielded 140 questions that were sent in advance of the event, and handled another 100 enquiries during the webcast. The APM panel itself – comprised of Tarion management, Board Vice-Chair Lea Ray and Tarion Ombudsperson Ian Darling – answered 28 questions during the live two-hour event.
Tarion held its first Annual Public Meeting in 2009. While attendance had been growing slowly, the vast majority of participants were always from the Greater Toronto Area. Only a few stakeholders, usually new home owners, from outside the city were able to attend. Some having to travel for many hours.
In an effort to increase participation, Tarion held its first-ever virtual APM last year and it was an unqualified success with more than 1,600 people from across the province registered for the event. The 2016 webcast was awarded an Honourable Mention in Corporate Social Responsibility by PR Daily in the category of Organizational Transparency.
This year’s webcast was recorded and has been posted to Tarion's YouTube channel here, a day earlier than our June 6 commitment to post.
