Colorectal Cancer Nonprofits Partner to Grow Local Grassroots Advocacy

Fight Colorectal Cancer and Colon Cancer Coalition join to activate supporters for change.

Minneapolis, Minn. & Springfield, Mo., June 29, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Colon Cancer Coalition and Fight Colorectal Cancer (Fight CRC) are working together to raise awareness of colorectal cancer in local communities and engage supporters in political advocacy. The partnership will ensure thousands of volunteers, advocates and supporters involved in both organizations receive tools to engage in political advocacy, information about access to care, and opportunities to raise awareness locally.

"More than ever, nonprofits need to be aware of - and involved with - public policy,” said Anjee Davis, president, Fight Colorectal Cancer. “We're pleased our two organizations will be working together to raise awareness and push for better policies for colorectal cancer patients and their families. This is an exciting partnership and I believe wholeheartedly we are stronger when we work together."

Both organizations are committed to helping survivors and family members and to raising awareness about this disease.  Working together, Fight CRC will provide advocacy tools such as action alerts and informative blogs about key policy issues for Colon Cancer Coalition’s supporters. The Colon Cancer Coalition will help share Fight CRC’s message and grassroots advocacy opportunities at Get Your Rear in Gear run/walk and Tour de Tush bike rides across the country. The partnership shows the shared commitment between both organizations to reach the national goal of 80% by 2018 and to see colorectal cancer be made a national priority.

“Collaboration is the only way we are going to reach an 80% screening rate,” says Anne Carlson, executive director of the Colon Cancer Coalition. “We are excited to partner with Fight Colorectal Cancer on advocacy to give our colon cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, and their families a voice to create change. By working together and presenting one unified message we will truly make the biggest impact on screening for this disease.”
