Former Teladoc pioneer and Chief Medical Officer, Richard Boxer M.D., joins a growing group of senior health executives gravitating to Miami based health-tech startup EpicMD

Miami, Florida, July 20, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) --

Health-technology start-up EpicMD was built to address the nation’s growing demand for high quality, affordable healthcare. The unique business model pairs doctors with the technology and support they need to offer patients a 24 x 7 concierge care solution while simultaneously reducing costs.

As reported last week in The South Florida Business Journal (https://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/news/2017/07/07/telemedicine-startup-lures-executive-from-nearby.html), the company is now attracting top-tier medical leadership talent at a surprising pace, now including the recent and notable addition of Richard Boxer MD, former Chief Medical Officer of telehealth provider Teladoc Inc.

“EpicMD offers a unique opportunity for doctors to participate in the enormous advantages of telemedicine.  Now, still in its growth stage, select doctors can apply to participate as full partners with EpicMD, bringing to their patients the advantages of 24/7/365 rapid, quality access in a convenient, affordable manner. Their patients will receive the best care by themselves or by Board certified colleagues. Patients appreciate the concierge personal service offered by EpicMD.  Doctors are finally being paid for their expertise on-call, and time away from the office can be truly free with trusted colleagues caring for your patients.  Thus, doctors have the luxury of time or the value of money while simultaneously participating as shareholders of a telemedicine company,” said Boxer.

EpicMD’s mission to provide the best, most affordable concierge health experience in America, is made possible through a genuine partnership model allowing doctors to form deeper and more convenient relationships with their patients through a set of simple technologies. “Telemedicine is the fastest growing opportunity in America's largest and fastest growing industry, health care.  The use of telemedicine increases access to affordable, convenient, quality care to urban and rural America.  With EpicMD, small and large groups of doctors can quickly increase their catchment areas, and therefore become an engine of referrals into their practice.  Thus, telemedicine is a win-win for doctors and patients” adds Dr. Boxer.

Rick Boxer has previously built the clinical program for a telemedicine company that grew from 50,000 members to 5,000,000 members. He has experience managing, recruiting, credentialing, educating, and standardizing the quality of a national network of 350 Board Certified doctors, and has also wrote the first medical guidelines (125) for evidence-based telemedicine, directed all clinical aspects of interactions with state and federal regulatory agencies, Congress and Executive Branch, and created the industry standard telemedicine quality assurance and quality improvement program. Boxer led the effort to become the nation's first NCQA accredited telemedicine company and was a Presidential Appointee to the National Cancer Advisory Board (1995-2002); National Board of Advisors, National Institute of Diabetes, and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (1994-1998), and US Delegate of World Health Organization (1997). He was a finalist for Surgeon General of the US in both the Bill Clinton and George W Bush Administrations.

“We are proud to be paving the road toward a true doctor-patient relationship in the telehealth space. The company is lucky to have a number of high profile leaders joining our mission to ensure that, as a team, we solve for the gap in convenient high quality care the market is searching for. We are proud to have Dr. Boxer’s support as we grow into larger markets and build toward best practices in every aspect ” said Matt Wanderer, Chief Executive Officer of EpicMD.
