SYMPOSIUM FEATURED PRESENTERS
- Dr. Kenzo Kase is the inventor of the original Kinesio Tape. After graduating a Doctor of Chiropractic from the National University of Health Sciences in Chicago in 1974 he went on to also create what we know now as the Kinesio Taping Method. He has over 50 publications credited to his name in both Japanese and English along with translations in various other languages around the world. Currently Dr. Kase is the Founder and Director of the Society of Kinesio Taping Therapy, the Kinesio Taping Association International and President of Kinesio University.
PRESENTATION: Innovations in Kinesio Taping
- Jean-Claude Guimberteau, MD, was born in 1947. He is co-founder and scientific director of the“Institut Aquitain de la Main.” He is member of the French Hand Society (GEM) and past President 2012 of the French Plastic and Reconstructive surgery society (SOFCPRE). He has served on the Health Service High Authority. He was trained in the Hand and Plastic department of the Bordeaux University, with Dr AJM. Goumain and Prof J. Baudet. During this surgical training, he was one of the pioneers in microsurgery and transplantations.
PRESENTATION: Of Cells, Fibers and Living Human Beings
- Kimiko Kawano, Ph.D., is Vice President of the Society of Kinesio Taping Therapy in Japan. She majored in Physics at Rikkyo University, Tokyo, and then served as an assistant professor in the department of physiology at Nippon Medical School, and also at Toho University. Dr. Kawano is currently Vice Chair of International Research Institute, Chiba, Japan, and Vice President of the International Society of Life Information Science. Additionally she serves as director and/or trustee for many societies.
PRESENTATION: The Brain Activities and Changes in the Autonomic Nervous System Functions with Kinesio Taping
- Professor Hans-Michael Klein, MD, PhD, is a renowned, widely published German cardiac surgeon who has performed thousands of surgical procedures and who has traveled and lectured extensively on five continents. Dr. Klein is an acknowledged leader in the international cardiac surgery community based on his 30+ years of clinical research and surgical experience. He has experimented with several laser modalities to determine which performs the best in this therapy and on what basis. His experiments and clinical research and experience have shown that the unique physical characteristics of CO2 laser energy when applied to hibernating myocardial tissue provide the most substantial improvements in cardiac function because of the re-remodeling and angiogenic processes that are initiated by the interaction of CO2 energy with the indicated myocardial tissue.
PRESENTATION: Further Developments in Post-Surgical Kinesio Taping
- Deana Mercer, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Mercer received a B.S. degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry from New Mexico State University, and an M.D. from the University of New Mexico 1999. She received fellowship training at the University of Washington in Seattle in Shoulder, Elbow surgery followed by a second fellowship in Hand and Microvascular surgery. She is an assistant professor on faculty at the University of New Mexico on tenure track. She is currently obtaining a master’s in clinical research. Her research interests include pathology of the shoulder, elbow and hand and biomechanical research addressing orthopaedic musculoskeletal problems including arthritis and osteoporosis and works closely with the engineering group in her efforts. Dr. Mercer is currently certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons and belongs to several professional societies.
PRESENTATION: Applications of Kinesio Taping in Hand Surgery
- Robert Schenck, MD, is currently Professor and Chair in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, has been a full-time academic physician since starting his orthopaedic career as an instructor at the University of Texas. After his medical training at Johns Hopkins (MD ’84, Orthopaedic Residency ’89), he pursued a fellowship in sports medicine with subspecialty training in foot and ankle surgery. In addition to academic and clinical work, Dr. Schenck has served as an athletic team physician for most of his career.
PRESENTATION: Complex Ligament Injuries of the Knee
- John Henry Sloan, MD, is Medical Director at Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital, Albuquerque, New Mexico. After receiving his MD and MPH degrees from University of Washington, Dr. Sloan completed residencies in physical medicine & rehabilitation, at Stanford University, and in general surgery, PGY1&2, at Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Occupational and Environmental Medicine and in Brain Injury and Medicine. He is certified in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (RMSK) and as an Independent Medical Evaluator (Certified CIME.)
