Poll Teens: After School App Offers Media Outlets A New Ability to Poll Teens Nationwide

San Francisco, California, Aug. 22, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The After School App, the largest social network for teens in the U.S., has the ability to poll users, and is inviting organizations and media outlets to join its effort. After School designs and administers polls along with partners to help society better understand the interests and concerns of today’s teens.

The app has hosted three polls to date alongside partners Data.World, BuzzFeed, DoSomething.org, and Countable.us. Poll topics range from asking teens if they are getting a good education to conducting a mock 2016 Presidential Election. In the election poll, covered by The 74 and the New York Post, teens chose Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton. They also showed large support for third-party candidates. The app’s mock election also helped teens register to vote and connect with campaigns to volunteer.

In May 2017, After School partnered with BuzzFeed to poll teens on the subject of fake news. 39,000 teens decided to take the one-day poll. Despite the fact that 83% of teens had heard of the term “fake news,” results showed one-third of teens were not confident that they could tell if an article is real or fake.

“Our polls have been wildly popular with our users, showing that teens are interested in learning about and engaging in societal conversations,” says Communications Manager Michael Luchies. “We’re looking to partner with organizations, media outlets, and companies that share our interest in listening to today’s teenagers and helping make sure their voices are heard.”

Polls within the app last between one day and a week. Results are released publicly on their website and are available to mine on Data.world.
