Los Angeles, CA, Aug. 30, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Claire’s Place Foundation, a non-profit organization providing support to children and families affected by cystic fibrosis, is proud to announce their third annual “Glow Ride for CF” fundraiser. On Saturday,
September 23, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. the short 3.4 mile ride will make a big scene on the Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach Piers, and make an even bigger impact on families with cystic fibrosis struggling to make ends meet while dealing with extended hospital stays.
The 3rd Annual Glow Ride for cystic fibrosis welcomes Zappos.com, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, NorthStar Moving Company, Renzwear, Bluewater Grill Redondo Beach and Hermosa Cyclery as this year’s event sponsors. “Claire’s Place is a foundation incredibly dear to our hearts,” said Steven Bautista, Karma Kommando for Zappos for Good. “We’re thrilled to be able to contribute to an important cause with such an inspirational founder.”
20-year-old Claire’s Place Foundation Founder Claire Wineland created the foundation to provide emotional and financial support to families with children that have cystic fibrosis (CF). Claire, who lives with CF, began her work following a life-threatening experience in the hospital at age 13, when an infection following a minor surgery spread throughout her body, sending her into complete lung failure. She was placed in the intensive care unit in a medically induced coma for several weeks and given a 1% chance of surviving. She defied all the odds and after regaining her strength months later, decided to help other families living with CF. In addition to her foundation, Claire is an activist, inspirational YouTube personality and speaker. Claire uses the podium to spread her unique and inspiring outlook on life and strives to break down social barriers surrounding individuals living with illness.
“We are thrilled to have the support of our elite group of sponsors as well as the South Bay City Councils. Hermosa Beach Mayor Justin Massey and Hermosa Beach City Council Member Stacey Armato will be kicking off the ride,” said Claire’s Place Foundation Executive Director Melissa Yeager. “This year was our biggest year for grant requests from young cystic fibrosis patients desperately seeking assistance with their bills. The foundation simply does not have enough funds to support all of the requests. Our Glow Ride event is vital to raising funds to help these families.”
Glow Ride tickets are $35 and include glow in the dark goodies needed to decorate bikes, skateboards, etc., as well as a custom glow in the dark event t-shirt. Hermosa Cyclery will provide free rental bikes to Glow Ride participants. Not in the area? You can still support the event by making a donation or start your own fundraising team to help Claire’s Place reach their goal of $10,000! All details can be found here.
