WATERLOO, Ontario, Sept. 12, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- HonkMobile, North America’s fastest and most convenient way to find and pay for parking, today announced an expansion to the City of Waterloo. Honk’s services allow drivers in Waterloo to buy more time in advance or as needed, in seven different surface lots, using any internet connected device via the Honk app.
“Uptown Waterloo has changed drastically over the past decade, and visitors want to stay more than an hour or two,” said City of Waterloo Mayor Dave Jaworsky. “This is a great smart-city solution that allows people to enjoy our vibrant uptown – shopping, dining, movies and especially personal services – while their smartphone tracks their parking time.”
Honk allows drivers to search, pay for, and top up parking directly from a smartphone, tablet or computer. Adding to the convenience, the app sends users a text notification 15 minutes before the parking is set to expire, with the option to extend time - avoiding the need to rush back and move the vehicle.
Drivers can park at no charge for two hours, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily in seven different surface parking lots in Waterloo. Now, if visitors to the uptown need more time, they can buy parking time beyond that free two-hour limit with Honk, at a rate of $2.75 per hour. Honk has worked closely with the municipality to incorporate the no-charge parking into drivers’ use of the app, as well as on the parking enforcement side, to ensure a seamless execution.
“Honk is revolutionizing parking across North America and we are thrilled to bring our service to Waterloo,” said Honk Founder and CEO Michael Back. “It’s really a win-win for the city and its motorists. The ease and convenience of the app eliminates the need to move a vehicle, and ultimately increases compliance for parking.”
Users can keep an eye out for signage in these surface parking lots in uptown Waterloo:
- Waterloo Town Square North and South Lots
- Museum Lot
- Temporary Lots A and B
- Station Lot
- City Centre Lot
Honk is excited to help the city maintain its reputation as an innovative, smart city moving forward by providing motorists with a seamless mobile solution to parking.
