VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Sept. 14, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, British Columbia’s public broadcaster, Knowledge Network, announces the launch of a new documentary collection, “Globalization and Its Discontents”. Beginning September 13 and continuing through to the end of December, the collection consists of ten programs exploring the roots of the global economy and how that system has come to affect nearly every aspect of our day-to-day lives. These programs will be available online, in the Knowledge app, and will air on Knowledge Network’s television channel.
From the beginnings of trade on the Silk Road to the shipping industry that’s become a global lifeline, the collection will provide British Columbia and the rest of Canada with the insight to understand how a natural disaster on the other side of the planet could affect the price of fuel at your local gas station, or how produce grown an ocean away can somehow cost less than something grown on home soil.
The collection will begin with the acclaimed Knowledge Network Original “Vancouver: No Fixed Address”, a documentary exploring the Vancouver housing crisis and real estate bubble. The film talks to groups of residents deeply affected by the housing boom as well as many key influencers in the city, including Musquem playwright Quelemia Sparrow, “Condo King” Bob Rennie, journalist Sandy Garossino, and scientist/activist David Suzuki.
Additional titles will focus on economics, the oil and gas industry, food prices, and geo-political issues. Mindful of the varying perspectives when dealing with such content matter, Knowledge Network has spent years carefully curating the collection’s content to ensure a global point of view.

“Vancouver: No Fixed Address” is available for early access online streaming on September 13th, and will make its broadcast premiere on October 17. The remaining programs will be available on all platforms, including online at Knowledge.ca, on the Knowledge App, and on Knowledge Network’s TV channel throughout the fall and winter of 2017.
