TORONTO, Oct. 25, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BGIS is pleased to announce that it has been named as one of Canada’s Safest Employers for 2017 by Canadian Occupational Safety. BGIS was publicly recognized as one of Canada’s Safest Employers in the Retail and Services Sector category at the Canadian Occupational Safety’s awards gala in Toronto held on October 24, 2017.
Launched in 2011, Canada's Safest Employers Awards recognize companies from all across Canada with outstanding accomplishments in promoting the health and safety of their workers. The award boasts 10 industry-specific categories, ranging from hospitality to mining and natural resources. Companies are judged on a wide range of occupational health and safety elements, including employee training, OHS management systems, incident investigation, emergency preparedness and innovative health and safety initiatives.
“Health and Safety is a core value at BGIS. The safety of all of our team members is paramount to the way we operate our business, both in Canada and across the world, and we are very honoured to be recognized as one of Canada’s Safest Employers in the Retail and Services Sector category” said Gord Hicks, Chief Executive Officer, BGIS.
BGIS remains committed to implementing a health and safety management system, integrated with their environmental management system, to ensure there are processes in place to identify hazards and evaluate risks, monitor performance and make changes as appropriate. BGIS employs a trained team of health and safety professionals across Canada that support team members in the prevention and resolution of health and safety issues. Each business meeting starts with a ‘Safety Moment’ in which a personal safety experience is shared with all attendees. Team members are also trained to recognize, report and if they are able to, correct any hazards they encounter. When a significant safety incident happens in the workplace, BGIS implements an escalation process to stop and assess what happened and identify the actions all parties need to implement to ensure it does not happen again. When necessary, a company-wide ‘stand down’ call will be held, led by the respective country Presidents, to share lessons learned. .
“Across the business, we expect our team members and contractors to always ‘Take 2 for Safety’, so they can ensure that they are physically and mentally engaged before embarking on any task, with the right mindset, tools, protection, procedures and support. Our commitment to safety remains a key part of the BGIS way of doing business” said Hicks.
