OSLO, Norway, Oct. 31, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- NEXT Biometrics Group ASA (Oslo Bors:NEXT) today announced it has begun mass production shipments of its NB-2034-S2 sensor module, designed to meet the performance and cost demands of the Notebook, Tablet and Access Control markets. The module is the first in a series of high performance, cost-efficient fingerprint modules based on NEXT’s second generation ASIC, the NB-A520.
NEXT, a leading provider of flexible and rigid fingerprint sensors, said that compared with its predecessors, the NB-2034-S2 module is based on a single semiconductor controller, the NB-A520 ASIC, that comes with an integrated microcontroller, providing flexibility in product design as well as a system cost reduction. The number of external components on the module is reduced by 67%, which enables use of a more cost-efficient flexible circuit board, easier mechanical integration and a significant overall system cost reduction.
NEXT Biometrics CEO Ritu Favre said, “We are excited to begin shipments of our NB-2034-S2 to our first Tier 1 notebook customer. This will impact our margins significantly from the first quarter of 2018. With this module, we are continuing to execute on our path to better performing, more integrated and cost-efficient products. These latest advances to our product line will contribute to pivot NEXT into a company with profitable revenue in all customer projects.”
Addressing the needs of the commercial Notebook space, this large area sensor module offers the highest levels of security and convenience. With its new fully bezel-less design, the sensor gives industrial designers the freedom for innovative designs, the company added.
NEXT said the module also boasts faster response times and has significantly lower power consumption relative to prior generations. The scan current, standby current and finger detection currents have been optimized for a much more power efficient notebook solution, NEXT said.
