Louisville, KY, Nov. 02, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Appriss Health, provider of the most comprehensive platform for substance use disorder in the U.S., today announced that it has entered into an agreement with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy to enhance Ohio’s prescription drug monitoring program, known as the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS), to now provide NarxCare, an advanced analytics and patient support solution, to Ohio prescribers and pharmacists, in clinical workflow and via OARRS, to assist in clinical decision-making and promote patient safety.
Ohio is the first state in the nation to offer NarxCare statewide via an enterprise license, making it available in clinical workflow at no cost to all eligible Ohio healthcare providers and pharmacists accessing OARRS via electronic health records (EHRs) and pharmacy management systems, as well as through the OARRS website, on November 20, 2017. Ohio has nearly ninety thousand active users of OARRS today. “This is another step in our commitment to utilize data in OARRS to better inform patient care,” said State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy Executive Director Steven W. Schierholt.
NarxCare is a comprehensive platform that aggregates and analyzes prescription information from providers and pharmacies and presents visual, interactive information, as well as advanced analytic insights, complex risk scores and more to help physicians, pharmacists and care teams to provide better patient care and safety. Furthermore, NarxCare provides tools and resources that support patients’ needs and connects them to treatment, if necessary. This information, insight and functionality is all accessed in clinical workflow via EHRs and pharmacy management systems, as well as through the OARRS website.
Ohio was also one of the first states to implement a statewide program to integrate PDMP data into workflow at no cost to all eligible prescribers and dispensers via EHRs and pharmacy management systems through the single connection point of PMP Gateway.
PMP Gateway is the industry standard for supporting efficient and secure real-time access to PDMP data and analytics directly within clinical workflow. PMP Gateway’s single point of connection helps states support PDMP integration, best practices to include:
• On-demand, detailed audit trail access
• Verification of user registration with PDMP
• Self-service configuration for custom PDMP rules/regulations
• Secure and efficient for practitioners, pharmacists and other PDMP users
• 24/7 technical support
• Access to multi-state PDMP data within workflow
• Native integrations with all leading EHR and pharmacy management systems
• NarxCare substance use disorder platform
“Ohio has long taken an aggressive and leading role towards addressing substance use disorder within its communities,” said Rob Cohen, President, Appriss Health. “Today, once again, Ohio has significantly strengthened its prescription drug monitoring program to give prescribers and pharmacists greater ability to help identify, manage, and prevent prescription drug abuse. Ohio’s forward-thinking leadership is at the forefront of facilitating earlier interventions, and better clinical outcomes, that can ultimately save lives.”
The deployment of Appriss Health’s NarxCare and PMP Gateway solutions were supported by the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act administered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
