Direct Relief, BD and the National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics Announce Winners of the Innovation and Continuity in Care Grant Program

Alexandria, VA, Nov. 22, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Direct Relief and BD have partnered with the National Association of Free & Charitable Clinics (NAFC) on the Innovation and Continuity in Care Grant Program. This funding is focused on programs which will allow NAFC member organizations to continue or expand their ability to provide much needed health care for the medically underserved in their communities.

“The NAFC is thankful for the support of BD and Direct Relief who recognize the importance of supporting organizations that are dedicated to providing affordable, accessible health care in communities throughout the country,” says NAFC Chief Executive Officer Nicole Lamoureux said.  “This funding will allow our organizations to continue their important work in providing health care to the medically underserved and help build a healthy America, one person at a time.”

This multi-year program will provide one-year grants ranging from $5,000 to $20,000 for Free and Charitable Clinics, Charitable Pharmacies and State Associations.  The following organizations were awarded funding in 2017:

  • Christian Health Center, Camden, AR
  • Crossings Community Clinic, Oklahoma City, OK
  • Health Access, Inc., Clarksburg, WV
  • HelpCare Clinic, Kearney, NE
  • His Hands Free Clinic, Cedar Rapids, IA
  • Hope Medical Clinic Inc., Ypsilanti, MI
  • Mission Medical Center, Colorado Springs, CO
  • Ogemaw Hills Free Methodist Church (Ogemaw Hills Free Clinic), West Branch, MI
  • Snake River Community Clinic, Lewiston, ID

This is the inaugural year of funding for the Innovation and Continuity in Care Grant Program.  With over 220 applications for this first year, the continued need for support of Free and Charitable Clinics and Charitable Pharmacies is evident, making the decision process difficult.

“The Innovations in Care Awards acknowledges the essential role of Free and Charitable Clinics in America’s healthcare safety net,” said Thomas Tighe, President and CEO of Direct Relief. “Direct Relief is excited to work once again with NAFC and BD to spotlight and elevate deserving providers for their amazing commitment to serving their patients and communities.”
