Louis Berger grants scholarship donation to Virginia Tech in memory of Ben Wenger

MORRISTOWN, N.J. and WASHINGTON, Dec. 21, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Berger Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established by Louis Berger, is granting a scholarship donation of $16,000 to Virginia Tech in honor of Ben Wenger, a promising young engineer who passed away in September 2017.

Ben Wenger joined Louis Berger in 2015 soon after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in civil and environmental engineering from Virginia Tech. He was the third in the Wenger family to work at Louis Berger, with his father Fred Wenger III, who serves as a leader in the company’s program and construction services practice, and his brother, who previously supported projects in the U.S. and overseas.

“Ben caught the attention of our structures team early on, demonstrating himself as a bright, collaborative and team oriented professional with tremendous potential,” said Jim Stamatis, Louis Berger CEO. “We mourn the loss of any member of our team, but at such a young age and with such a promising career ahead of him, Ben’s loss was unexpected and especially tragic. We hope that this scholarship donation in Ben’s memory will help other promising young minds achieve their potential in the field that Ben loved.”

The scholarship donation will support students studying engineering through the Beyond Boundaries Scholars Program, which provides financial aid support to high-achieving, under-represented, under-served, and first-generation college students attending Virginia Tech. The program matches a donor’s gift and presents students with funds needed to attend the university. The foundation’s donation to the Beyond Boundaries Scholars Program will provide funds to support promising engineering students over the next four years.
