MacB Scientist Co-Authors Collaborative Electronic Warfare Cover Story

DAYTON, Ohio, Jan. 29, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MacAulay-Brown, Inc. (MacB), a leading National Security company delivering advanced engineering services, cybersecurity and product solutions, announced today that Distinguished Consulting Scientist Dr. John A. Kosinski of MacB’s Advanced Technology Group (ATG), and Dr. Phil Mumford in the Sensors Directorate of the Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), recently teamed up to co-author the cover story published in the January 2018 issue of the Journal of Electronic Defense (JED) entitled, “Thinking Through Collaborative Electronic Warfare.”

JED is the official publication of the Association of Old Crows (AOC), an independent, nonprofit, and international professional association that promotes public understanding in the science and practice of Electronic Warfare (EW), Signals Intelligence (SIGINT) and related disciplines.

Dr. Kosinski has been with MacB for six years, joining the company in September 2011 following his retirement as Chief Scientist for the U.S. Army Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate (I2WD). He earned a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Montclair State University in New Jersey, and a master’s degree in Electronics Engineering from Monmouth University. Dr. Kosinski was awarded his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University in 1993. He is also a Life Member of AOC, and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The collaboration between Drs. Kosinski and Mumford is the first of a four-part series to be published in subsequent issues that addresses a number of misconceptions regarding EW, and particularly on what to expect and what not to expect when attempting to combine signals from multiple jammers. The idea for the stories grew out of an AFRL study contract, the results of which were presented at the Annual AOC Kittyhawk International Symposium in 2016. Dr. Kosinski’s scientific expertise and thought leadership eventually led to a discussion about writing a series of articles for the magazine.

“This planned series of technical and theoretical articles for JED Magazine clarifies and discusses some of the complexities associated with designing and using collaborative Electronic Warfare techniques to enhance the future success of our military forces,” said Tim Lawrence, Senior Vice President and General Manager of MacB’s Advanced Technology Group. “There is no easy way to predict the effects of collaborative techniques. You have to actually do the math. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Kosinski on our team, and for MacB to be on the forefront of future collaborative EW methodologies.”
