University of Missouri Health Care Selects Cerner for Revenue Cycle Management

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- University of Missouri Health Care, in Columbia, has selected Cerner, a global leader in health care technology, to help manage revenue cycle performance across its five hospitals and more than 50 primary and specialty care clinics.

MU Health Care will soon integrate Cerner’s registration, scheduling, patient accounting and practice management solutions and transaction services with its existing electronic health record (EHR), Cerner Millennium®. The integration of clinical and financial data will help the academic health center achieve a Clinically Driven Revenue CycleTM, designed to allow clinicians and staff to update the billing process throughout a patient’s visit and enhance clinical documentation to help improve reimbursement and limit claims errors. Cerner will help MU Health Care streamline the financial experience for staff and patients while controlling cost to collect.

“Cerner was the clear choice to help us achieve clinical and financial integration throughout our health system and optimize the revenue cycle,” said Jonathan Curtright, CEO, MU Health Care. “MU Health Care and Cerner have a long-standing relationship. We share a similar vision of health care for the next five, 10, 20 years and beyond.”

The agreement also completes MU Health Care’s full transition to Cerner Millennium as an end-to-end user of the EHR, in addition to IT management through Cerner ITWorksSM. MU Health Care’s transition to one integrated system will provide clinicians, including doctors and nurses, access to one complete digital record of their patients’ health history, including clinical and financial data. The selection of Cerner for revenue cycle management is another step in strengthening the strategic relationship with MU Health Care. Together, Cerner and the University of Missouri previously formed the Tiger Institute for Health Innovation with the mission to transform health care for Missourians.

“With the implementation of Cerner’s revenue cycle management solutions, MU Health Care is achieving its goal of one integrated health system for its patients,” said Jeff Hurst, senior vice president, Revenue Cycle Management and president, Cerner RevWorksSM, Cerner. “We are proud to expand our long-term relationship with MU Health Care, to help them unite clinical and financial data within one patient record to deliver improved outcomes to its community.”

Bryan Bliven, CIO, and Thomas Selva, chief medical information officer, of MU Health Care will speak on their approach to improving provider satisfaction with the EHR during HIMSS18 on Wednesday, March 7, at the Venetian - Palazzo - Sands Expo Convention Center in Las Vegas.
