Salt Lake City, March 22, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- SelectHealth has signed a value-based contract with Novo Nordisk, a leader in diabetes care, to measure outcomes among patients with type 2 diabetes using Victoza® (liraglutide). Victoza may improve blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when used in conjunction with diet and exercise.
Both SelectHealth and Novo Nordisk will track metrics built into the contract designed to measure and understand how members use Victoza and how it supports their diabetes and overall healthcare goals.
Eric Cannon, SelectHealth Pharmacy Benefit Services AVP, said “Diabetes is a significant driver of cost. We are excited to enter into an agreement that is focused on improving clinical outcomes and providing value to our members. SelectHealth and Intermountain Healthcare will continue to explore value-based opportunities that improve health and value for our members.”
“Due to the costs associated with unmanaged diabetes and its increasing prevalence in the US, value-based contracting can help us learn more about how our medicines can improve patients’ lives,” said Todd Hobbs, MD, chief medical officer, Novo Nordisk Inc. “We stand behind the clinical value of our medicines, and consider this contract an exciting opportunity to not only showcase this efficacy, but also to improve access for patients.”
