OAKVILLE, Ontario, March 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Spring is in the air and the Easter weekend is upon us. MADD Canada and Allstate Canada are asking everyone to make this a crash-free holiday long weekend by planning ahead for a sober ride home.
“Even though impaired driving happens on all days and at all times, it is more prevalent on weekends,” said MADD Canada National President Patricia Hynes-Coates. “With the holiday long weekend approaching, we’re urging everyone to plan ahead if they’re going to be drinking or consuming drugs.”
Hundreds of Canadians are killed and tens of thousands are injured in crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs every year. In fact, alcohol and/or drugs are present in 59% of all road crash deaths.
MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are asking Canadians to prevent impaired driving crashes, deaths and injuries this holiday weekend by:
- Never driving impaired;
- Never getting into a vehicle being operated by someone who’s impaired;
- Calling 911 if you see a driver you suspect is impaired.
“We often see impaired driving crashes referred to as ‘accidents’. But the reality is they are not accidents; they occur because someone made a choice to get behind the wheel and drive impaired,” said Allstate Insurance Company of Canada President and CEO Ryan Michel. “Help prevent impaired driving this weekend and every day of the year by planning ahead and having a sober ride home.”
