YouGov Unveils YouGov Ratings – Free Popularity Data Covering Pretty Much Everything

YouGov Ratings provides the definitive popularity score – from superstars to supermarkets (and almost anything in between)

NEW YORK, April 23, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- YouGov, the world’s leading data and analytics group, today unveils YouGov Ratings, a new and dynamic free public data platform that enables consumers to see what their fellow Americans think about thousands of things.

YouGov Ratings is robust, searchable, and publicly accessible data that allows anyone to see what US consumers think about almost anything – from pop stars to politicians, sports teams to snack foods, and everything in between. It is available for free on YouGov’s website.

These nationally representative popularity scores cover more than 8,000 topics and are published on a continuous basis. With more than 30 million responses, YouGov Ratings gives an authentic glimpse into the mindset of consumers across America. This new open data platform is built on YouGov's accurate and precise methodology, which the Pew Research Center says "consistently outperformed" its competitors in online polling.

As well as allowing people to see how popular different things are, it also shows the connections between fans of one thing and another. Whether it is the brands that fans of a particular celebrity like, or what TV shows fans of a certain politician prefer, YouGov Ratings shows the links.

Stephan Shakespeare, YouGov Co-Founder and CEO: “YouGov Ratings is the definitive measure of popularity and awareness for thousands of celebrities, politicians, sports teams, music acts, and products. YouGov is the encyclopedia and chronicle of opinion – the authoritative destination for opinion data for both consumers and businesses. YouGov Ratings is a key part of this. We want the public to have accurate, easy to understand, and fun to use scores that cover an ever-growing range of categories. If you want to see which musicians fans of Donald Trump like, what fruits people who like Drake are partial to, or how many John Oliver fans want to see ‘real looking people’ in adverts, YouGov Ratings has the answer.”

By connecting data on people’s lifestyle, brand preferences, and attitudes with YouGov’s vast database of consumer opinion, YouGov Ratings offers a deeper view of fans and consumers alike.

With YouGov Ratings, users can search and find answers to:

  • What TV show do Millennials love most?
  • Do men and women prefer different phone models?
  • Which old-timey TV show do fans of the President like?
  • Who is the most top rated active sports personality among female Millennials or Gen-Xers?
  • Who’s more famous – Taylor Swift, Kanye West, or Kim Kardashian?
  • Which bank do Baby Boomers rate most highly?

By publishing accurate, free-to-use popularity scores alongside its other data, YouGov continues to challenge the status quo in the research industry. YouGov Ratings highlights the breadth and depth of its data – and showcases YouGov’s understanding of what makes Americans tick.

About YouGov Ratings:
We collect data for YouGov Ratings each and every day. The data we collect accumulates and what you see on the website is an average of all the data we have collected over a 12-month period. For each thing, in YouGov Ratings, we show nationally representative popularity percentage scores. The positive popularity score shown at the top of the page (on the left) is calculated by taking the proportion of people who view something positively and showing it as a percentage of all of the people who have given any opinion about that thing, including not heard of. Our sample mirrors the demographics of the US and the data is weighted to be nationally representative. The methodology utilized to select the entities is based on a number of factors, one of which was a threshold of awareness. You can learn more on our YouGov Ratings here.
