TheRecover.com, Drug Rehab Center Misconceptions

SAN DIEGO, May 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- When many people think of inpatient drug rehab centers, they think of hospitals or centers of that nature. In reality, many drug rehabilitation centers are set in residential areas in a large home where the patients have their own bedrooms, bathrooms, and use of a kitchen. Hospitals are not ideal locations for drug treatment programs because they do not represent true life situations and living accommodations. Therefore, when a person is trying to recover from an addiction, it’s best to attend a rehab center in an environment most similar to the one they will be returning to once they have completed their time in the drug treatment center. Hospitals are sometimes used for drug rehab programs, but more often a hospital will only be visited if an individual becomes ill during withdrawals, or in their time spent at the alcohol and drug treatment center. Most residential drug rehab centers have doctors or nurses who visit regularly to monitor the patients, especially during the initial days at the drug rehab center to oversee the withdrawal process, which can be very painful for some. With the visiting doctors who come to the rehab center, or nurses on call, appropriate medications can be administered if the need arises, giving optimal care to the individuals in an inpatient drug rehabilitation center.

There are both short-term and long-term inpatient drug treatment programs. Short-term drug rehabilitation programs usually last around 30 days, and focus on the most important aspects of drug rehab, such as detoxification, abstinence from substance abuse, changes in lifestyle choices, and a healthy recovery.

Long-term inpatient drug treatment programs focus on the same ideas, but are looked at more in-depth, and also tend to focus longer on how to set and reach goals, and how to deal with everyday stressors that would usually make the individual feel the need to use. These long-term drug treatment programs can last up to six months or longer and often offer an extended care program that is available even after the individual leaves the drug rehab center itself. These long-term drug rehab programs are also more hands on when it comes to the staff interaction with the patients in the drug and alcohol rehabs, as they are monitored 24 hours a day with a no tolerance policy when it comes to drugs or leaving the rehab without prior permission. A great majority of long-term inpatient drug treatment centers are in residential areas, and provide a much more comfortable environment for the individuals to recover in.

Regardless of your choice for a drug treatment center, the decision to pursue recovery from drug or alcohol addiction is the most important and life-changing decision that you will make. Taking the first steps into any drug rehab center will be the hardest part, but you will be rewarded in so many ways when you are able to return to living a normal life, not relying on drugs or alcohol to get you through your day.
