CipherHealth Celebrates the Work of Exceptional Nurses with Award

New York, New York, May 30, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CipherHealth, a leading healthcare patient engagement technology company, has recognized exceptional nurse or nursing teams across the country with its third annual Nurses Week Awards.

The awards are presented to those nurses who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of patients and families on a daily basis. Out of 230 nominees, recipients were chosen in each of three categories: Inspiring Nurse Leader, Excellence in Clinical Practice, and Outstanding Patient Care.

The recipients of the 2018 CipherHealth Nurses Awards are:

  1. Inspiring Nurse Leader Award:
Ainsley Polson, Nurse Manager at University of Virginia Health System

"Measures that Ainsley put in place following the August 2017 events in Charlottesville showed exceptional leadership. This included increasing communications with patients and their families, increasing unit huddles and staff one on one conversations specifically to ensure that staff felt safe and were without emotional fatigue, providing additional security to victims who felt unsafe, and the addition of debriefs with human resources and social work. Her personal discussions with victims and families to address their special needs alleviated this emotional work from her staff and allowed them to focus on caregiving within a challenging environment."
                - Jack Jackson, Administrator at University of Virginia Health System
  2. Excellence In Clinical Practice Award:
Melissa Carabetta, Clinical Nurse IV at Memorial Sloan Kettering Center

"Melissa has worked tirelessly to improve the patient experience of the lactating patient undergoing cancer treatment. She has co-authored a patient education document, assisted in obtaining hospital grade breast pumps for our lactating patients, and worked to obtain refrigerators for breast milk storage. Melissa has also written two proposals for the Patient Environment Program at MSK seeking improvement in amenities for our lactating patients. Her dedication is exceptional. Because of the special needs of the lactating patient, Melissa takes it upon herself to make contact with these patients in PACU to ensure their needs are being met"

               - Jennifer Simon, Clinical Nurse at Memorial Sloan Kettering Center

  3. Outstanding Patient Care Award:
Post Bariatric Surgery Unit (Main 6) at Yale New Haven Hospital

"There are countless examples of extraordinary acts of compassion that are carried out by the team. One such example was an 83-year-old woman who had a lengthy stay on the unit. She and her husband happened to be celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary during her stay. The staff did not want this special day to go unnoticed. To commemorate the day, they bought a card, cake and sparkling cider to help the couple celebrate this special occasion. This simple act of kindness brought the couple to tears."

               -
Geraldine McSherry, Patient Services Manager at Yale New Haven Hospital

“Each year I am inspired by the professionalism, dedication, and attention to patient needs, both clinically and emotionally, demonstrated in each of the nominations,” said Lisa Romano RN ,MSN, CipherHealth’s Chief Nursing Officer/VP of Clinical Services. “The awards serve as a reminder that the work we do is important because we are helping real-life superheroes fulfill their duties.”

Congratulations to the nurses and teams whose work improves the lives of so many, every day.
