CBRS Alliance Showcases Continued Momentum at Annual All Member Meeting with Debut of OnGo™, Launch of Certification Program and Membership Growth

Milestones Achieved Include New Leadership; Product Demos Showcasing Technical Progress; Inaugural Presentation of Key Contributor Awards; and Launch of OnGo

SUNNYVALE, Calif., June 07, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today the CBRS Alliance announced its most recent progress, coming out of its second-annual All Member Meeting, held May 8-10 outside Washington D.C. The three-day event showcased the tremendous momentum the organization has gained in less than two years and was a key driver in the achievement of several milestones, including: the launch of the OnGo™ brand and OnGo Test and Certification program; the inaugural CBRS Alliance Key Contributor and Leadership Award Ceremony; several live technical demonstrations showcasing member progress with OnGo™ products; the election of CommScope to the Board of Directors  and the election of the Alliance’s officers.

The May 8 launch of OnGo, and the OnGo Test and Certification Program was well-received by the organization and the industry-at large. Eleven member companies demonstrated OnGo products and technology on-site, showcasing the range of OnGo solutions and use cases.

A High-Momentum Meeting

Since the April 2017 annual member meeting, the CBRS Alliance membership has nearly doubled, and now includes more than 85 active member companies.  These organizations were represented by 188 on-site attendees at the recent meeting, making it the largest member meeting the CBRS Alliance has hosted to-date.

“Our 2018 Annual Member Meeting was an especially monumental event, thanks to the progress made by individual contributors, working groups, and the organization as a whole,” said Dave Wright, President of the CBRS Alliance. “As noted by many of the key stakeholders who spoke during the event, we expect to continue this increase in momentum through the remainder of the year and into 2019.”

A lineup of presentations given by key government and industry stakeholders – including Derek Khlopin, Senior Advisor, Spectrum Policy, Office of the Assistant Secretary, National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA);  Tom Taylor, Senior Program Analyst, Office of the CIO, United States Department of Defense; and Joe Madden, Founder and President at Mobile Experts – also affirmed the traction made to-date, and highlighted the opportunities that OnGo will enable in the near future.

The industry forecast and update from Joe Madden included key findings and results from his recently released paper, “OnGo: New Shared Spectrum Enables Flexible Indoor and Outdoor Mobile Solutions and New Business Models.” Joe noted his optimism about the OnGo market and highlighted the significant business opportunities OnGo enables for private LTE use cases.

The CBRS Alliance also debuted its inaugural Key Contributor and Leadership Awards. The Key Contributor Awards were created to acknowledge members who have been recognized by their peers for outstanding participation and contribution to the technical work of the CBRS Alliance. The Leadership Award is presented to a current working group chair who has shown commitment to working collaboratively and driving consensus as new specifications are created to support the industry and fulfill the mission of the CBRS Alliance.

Board of Directors Grows, Leadership Updates

The full members of the Alliance elected Mark Gibson of CommScope to represent them on the Board of Directors. Mark brings more than 30 years of spectrum management experience to the CBRS Alliance and in his current role leads CommScope’s efforts on Spectrum Access System and Environmental Sensing Capability for CBRS, plus other spectrum management offerings.

“I am honored and excited to be selected to the Board of the CBRS Alliance and am looking forward to working with board members and the Alliance to make CBRS a reality,” said Gibson. “I expect this year will mark several important milestones in the development of the CBRS ecosystem.”

During the Annual Meeting CBRS Alliance Board Directors were also elected to new officer positions. Chris Stark of Nokia was elected to Chair of the Board, Dave Wright of Ruckus Networks was elected President, and Paul Anuszkiewicz of CTIA was elected Secretary. Preston Marshall of Google maintains his role as Co-Chair and Sarosh Vesuna of Federated Wireless will continue his role as Treasurer.

“Being involved in an organization that presents so much promise for the industry and our customers has already been an excellent opportunity,” said Chris Stark, newly elected Chairman of the Board for the CBRS Alliance, and Head of Strategy and Business Development for North America at Nokia “I look forward to continuing to champion OnGo and the opportunities that spectrum sharing represent in my role as Chair, and am optimistic about the year ahead.”
