New York, June 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With summer travel season in full swing, K2 Intelligence, an industry-leading investigative, compliance, and cyber defense services firm, is offering safety and security tips to travelers based on what their travel risk management experts won’t leave home without. These travel pros insist on having not just the latest gadgets and mobile apps at their fingertips, but also include tried and tested old-school items in their toolkits.
“Regardless of the length or location of your trip, your safety and security toolkit should be up to date and ready to go, “said Robert Panella, Managing Director at K2 Intelligence. “In travel environments, as compared to the home or workplace, you will not have the same levels of control. Following these basic tips will help you regain some of that control, provide you with peace of mind, and reduce the likelihood of travel related safety incidents.”
Your safety and security toolkit should include:
- Government-authorized apps that provide assistance during every phase of your trip. Enroll in the U.S. State Department’s Smart Traveler Program through its app to learn current information on your destination, receive alerts in real-time while away, and to inform the local U.S. Embassy of your presence in the country should it need to contact you. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection authorizes the Mobile Passport app, which can expedite your re-entry into the United States.
- Ways to safeguard your online data. Mobile hotspots are more secure than public WiFi options (think airports or coffee shop). Virtual private networks (VPNs) encrypt your data and can provide another layer of security. When you must use a public USB socket to charge, a data blocker may be useful. They block the transfer of data from your device and limit your risk of a virus and data loss.
- Old-school items that never go out of style. A simple rubber doorstop may serve as an additional deterrent to an intruder. A paper copy of your passport—with local Embassy information written on the back—may come into service should your passport be stolen. Wearing a wristband that notes your blood type and other medical conditions and allergies might be useful if you find yourself in an accident.
