As of this week, the Wawa locations in Washington, DC, and Clifton Heights, PA, become the newest stores to become part of Wawa’s delivery option.
“We are delighted to add Uber Eats delivery service to our offering at these eight locations, making ordering Wawa products faster, easier and more accessible than ever,” said Steve Hackett, Delivery Project Manager for Wawa. “Since we began piloting delivery service last fall, feedback from customers on this added convenience has been extremely positive. We’re thrilled to reach even more customers in our marketplace through our partnership with Uber Eats, a technology our customers are already using. It’s exciting to get even closer to our goal of offering delivery to one-quarter of our stores by year’s end.”
Wawa first started offering delivery in late 2017. Currently offered at 15 stores, online delivery via Grubhub and now Uber Eats is available for most of Wawa’s foodservice products, as well as a limited number of beverages, chips, candy and desserts. Wawa is continuing to gather internal and external feedback from customers and associates to help ensure the delivery process is as smooth and seamless as possible. Since the initial pilot, delivery of Wawa products has been the most popular on weekends and during the dinner timeframe, with customer delivery favorites including Wawa macaroni and cheese, hoagies, soups, and sides.
“It’s our mission to make food delivery an everyday thing. We’re excited to help connect Wawa with new customers and deliver classic favorites like Cheesesteak Hoagies and Handcrafted Beverages - all at the speed of Uber,” said Liz Meyerdirk, Global Head of Business Development.
Anyone new to Uber Eats can enjoy free delivery on their first meal from Wawa using promo code WawaUberEats. Valid for new users only at participating Wawa locations. For more information on Uber Eats and how to sign up, visit https://www.ubereats.com/.
About Wawa, Inc.
Wawa, Inc., a privately held company, began in 1803 as an iron foundry in New Jersey. Toward the end of the 19th Century, owner George Wood took an interest in dairy farming and the family began a small processing plant in Wawa, PA in 1902. The milk business was a huge success, due to its quality, cleanliness and “certified” process. As home delivery of milk declined in the early 1960’s, Grahame Wood, George’s grandson, opened the first Wawa Food Market in 1964 as an outlet for its dairy products. Today, Wawa is your all day, every day stop for freshly prepared foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services, and surcharge-free ATMs. A chain of more than 800 convenience retail stores (over 600 offering gasoline), Wawa stores are located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida. The stores offer a large fresh food service selection, including Wawa brands such as custom prepared hoagies, freshly-brewed coffee, hot breakfast sandwiches, specialty beverages, and an assortment of soups, sides and snacks. In 2016 and 2017 Wawa was recognized by Forbes Magazine as one of America’s Best Large Employers, a survey-based ranking of employers offering the best associate experiences and strongest opportunities. In 2017 Wawa was the recipient of a Silver Plate Award in the category of Retail & Specialty Foodservice by the International Foodservice Manufacturers’ Association during their 63rd Annual Award Event. Wawa was also designated as a 2017 Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
