UNICOM Engineering Launches Appliances Featuring Low-Power Intel Atom® C3000 SoC to Fill Market Gap

These New Platforms Boost Performance, Security, Agility, and Efficiency at the Edge

CANTON, Mass., July 19, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- UNICOM Engineering, a leading provider of application platforms and lifecycle support services for software technology developers, OEMs and enterprises worldwide, today introduced a portfolio of platforms optimized for the growing Embedded Appliance and Network Edge markets. The latest products feature high density, low-power server solutions, which provide new options for value-segment buyers who want advanced performance.

As companies continue to transition toward intelligent network edge solutions, specifically for IoT applications, UNICOM Engineering meets this demand by extending upon the existing selection of Atom-based platforms, using the latest Intel Atom® C3000. These platforms offer efficient long life availability, low-power utilization, up to 16 processor cores, connectivity through four 10GbE ports with bypass, 1GbE dedicated out-of-band management port, optional LTE WWAN, optional WiFi, and up to 128GB DDR4 DRAM, all combined with high-performance Intel® QuickAssist (QAT) acceleration. Designed to span needs from everyday computing like basic productivity to advanced functions such as network security and malware analysis. Additionally, these products empower real-time computing in digital surveillance, next-gen communications at the edge, advancements in industrial and office automation, as well as new solutions for retail and medical.

UNICOM Engineering’s extended Atom C3000 platform portfolio complements the existing Intel Atom® C2000 based products and includes the S-750, S-1300, and S-1500 featuring the latest Goldmont Microarchitecture. The S-750 offers small and medium sized enterprises the ability to host and better manage branch office and remote applications that require advanced network computing and connectivity in a low-profile, purpose-built box. This compact appliance also supports Intel® VT-x and VT-d technologies for Virtual Machines (VMs) to support Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV) without incurring additional hardware performance penalties.

The S-1300 and S-1500 are low-cost, short depth 1U rackmount server solutions offering entry-level, server-class performance. These systems allow applications requiring up to four internal enterprise class SAS/SATA HDDs/SSDs (S-1300) or four hot swap enterprise class SAS/SATA HDDs/SSDs (S-1500) to benefit from the latest in Intel Atom® CPU Microarchitecture. The S-1500 also provides redundant power supplies for enterprise class system availability. All three models support a single Intel Atom® C3000 (formerly code named Denverton) 16-core or 8-core SoC and four integrated 10GbE LAN ports with bypass capability (2 bypass pairs), while the S-1300 and S-1500 additionally offer a single PCIe expansion card.

A white paper describing the road to innovation with Intel Atom® C3000 SoC is currently available online offering a detailed analysis into emerging solutions. Included are examples of the features and benefits targeted towards security and communications applications.
