Reduce Impaired Driving Risk This Weekend – Plan Ahead For A Sober Ride Home

OAKVILLE, Ontario, Aug. 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- With another summer weekend nearly here – a holiday long weekend across much of the country – MADD Canada and Allstate Canada are asking everyone to put safety first by planning ahead for a sober ride home if alcohol or drugs are part of their weekend plans.

“Summer is well underway and the statistics and news reports clearly show not everyone is getting the message about the risks of impaired driving. Whether you’re bound for the cottage, taking the boat out on the lake, trekking the trails on an ATV, or spending the weekend at home with family and friends, please don’t drive impaired,” said MADD Canada National President Patricia Hynes-Coates. “No one should ever have to experience the devastating tragedy that can result from impaired driving.”

Crashes involving alcohol and/or drugs kill hundreds of Canadians and injure tens of thousands every year. MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada partner to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving and encourage everyone to help keep roads and communities safe.

  • Never drive a car, boat, ATV or any other vehicle while impaired;
  • Never ride with a driver who is impaired;
  • Call 911 to report suspected impaired drivers.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is never worth the risk. You could lose your licence, face steep fines, go to jail or, worse, you could hurt yourself, your passengers or others on the road with you,” said Ryan Michel, President and CEO of Allstate Insurance Company of Canada. “Be safe, leave the car at home and plan for sober transportation.”

Whatever your plans are this weekend, please arrange a sober ride home. Call an Uber or a cab, arrange a designated driver, take public transit or stay the night. Those looking for a safe, sober and reliable ride home at the push of a button can check out Uber, MADD Canada’s Official Designated Driving App. Visit https://www.uber.com/partner/en-ca/madd-canada/ for more information.
