Portland, OR, Sept. 10, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Addressing the national and regional nursing shortage, Concordia University-Portland will launch a new, entirely online pre-nursing program in January 2018.
Concordia’s pre-nursing program, provided in collaboration with healthcare education solutions provider Orbis Education, allows students with at least 12 transferable college credits to earn an associate of arts (AA) degree entirely online. Graduates may then seek employment or continued education in any accelerated bachelor of science in nursing (ABSN) program.
Following the pre-nursing program, students may choose to enter Concordia’s ABSN program, or any ABSN program, which has rolling admissions for three start dates annually, and can be completed in 16-months. Concordia’s recent, inaugural ABSN graduates earned a perfect pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) – meaning 100% of the inaugural graduates passed the exam on their first attempt.
This new degree is just one of Concordia University’s expanded range of program offerings to prepare students for careers in health care, including nursing, social work, exercise and sports science, health care administration, and more.
The university recently expanded its nursing facilities to accommodate record high enrollments and student demand, including a newly renovated nursing lab on the northeast Portland campus, and a new Nursing Skills Center located at 9600 SW Barnes Road in Portland, Ore. adjacent to Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. The 11,980 sq. ft. Nursing Skills Center includes large lab spaces, two simulation rooms, with high-tech medical mannequins that simulate real patient conditions, an observation room, student collaboration space, faculty offices and conference rooms.
Concordia’s bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) degree program launched in 2005, and has conferred approximately 500 degrees to date. In 2015, Concordia’s nursing program earned national accreditation for the maximum five-year term by the Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). That same year, Concordia launched its accelerated bachelor’s in nursing (ABSN).
