NASHUA, N.H., Sept. 24, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Dresner Advisory Services today published the 2018 Small and Mid-Sized Enterprise Business Intelligence Market Study, part of the Wisdom of Crowds® series of research. The 6th annual study describes the small and mid-sized enterprise market for Business Intelligence (BI) by its characteristics, drivers, and trends, as well as how it compares to the large enterprise market. The report defines “small enterprise” as an organization with between one and 100 employees and “mid-sized enterprise” as having between 101 and 1,000 employees.
“As organization size decreases, we see the likelihood of reporting success with BI programs, with smaller organizations focusing on customer feedback and satisfaction as well as the return on their BI investment,” said Jim Ericson, vice president and research director at Dresner Advisory Services. “Small and mid-sized enterprises also report incrementally better states of data and ability to act on insight than their larger peers.”
According to the findings, small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) place their topmost focus on basic BI technologies such as reporting and dashboards. Small organizations are more likely to engage software-as-a-service and open source software strategies, and are less likely to support data warehousing, data catalog, or governance.
“We have collected and analyzed a significant amount of data on SMEs surrounding the functions driving BI, goals and objectives, targeted user roles, and current penetration,” said Howard Dresner, founder and chief research officer at Dresner Advisory Services. “This rich information enables us to paint a very detailed picture of the unique priorities and trends within the SME market.”
Wisdom of Crowds® research is based on data collected on usage and deployment trends, products, and vendors. Users in all roles and throughout all industries contributed to provide a complete view of realities, plans, and perceptions of the market.
