LCI honors Henry Nutt, Southland Industries, with Pioneer Award at upcoming LCI Congress

ARLINGTON, Va., Oct. 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Lean Construction Institute (LCI) will honor Henry Nutt, Southland Industries, with the Pioneer Award at the 20th Annual LCI Congress for his thought-leadership in the design and construction industry.

Henry Nutt, Sheet Metal General Superintendent, has invested a significant amount of time and energy in supporting LCI’s mission, goals and educational programs, as well as the industry as a whole by openly sharing lessons learned with the Lean community at LCI Community of Practice (CoP) events, LCI Congress events and on the project site.

An active leader with the LCI Northern California CoP, Henry also frequently speaks at LCI CoP events about practical benefits of Lean and has led many Lean workshops focused on the workflow with field and shop workers. He has also published three articles on Lean practices in industry journals like FMJ Magazine.

His pioneering role with LCI corporate member company Southland Industries led to its transformation from a traditional installer to a leader in Lean installations. For the past 10 years, Henry has been championing Lean practices at every major Southland project in Northern California, leading to $22 million in savings on projects totaling over $1.5 billion combined in mechanical contracting revenues. Henry also makes time to tutor Southland interns and project engineers in Lean practices so that they can become Lean pioneers in the future.

“Henry embodies LCIs mission to make the industry more efficient and valuable by finding ways to prioritize Lean both in his work and through volunteering and inspiring the next generation.”

–Dan Heinemeier, CAE

Executive Director, LCI

During the more than 50 tours Henry has led of Southland’s Union City shop, general contracting firms and owner organizations like Genentech, Google and San Francisco International Airport experienced Lean processes in action like waste elimination and continuous improvement.

Henry also donates his time and expertise to other industry association committees like SMACNA’s National Lean Committee and Associated General Contractor’s National Lean Steering Committee. He will be presented with the LCI Pioneer Award on Thursday morning at the 20th Annual LCI Congress, held Oct. 15-19, in Orlando, Florida.
