SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, Oct. 31, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Almas Jiwani, an international leader in gender equality and women’s economic empowerment, was invited to speak at the Universidad José Matías Delgado (UJMD) on October 11th, 2018. This speech was given as part of Miss Jiwani's speaking tour in El Salvador to help promote women's empowerment and entrepreneurship, and included speaking engagements with non-governmental organizations, local and international businesses, and diplomatic meetings.
Miss Jiwani, CEO of the Almas Jiwani Foundation, enthusiastically spoke to attendees about student entrepreneurship and empowerment, and how individuals in higher education can re-analyze their approaches to success from a gender equality perspective. The event was co-organized by the Canadian Embassy in El Salvador and the UJMD, and attracted over 200 attendees, including students and educators from the University.
“Why Entrepreneurship? Entrepreneurship has become a trending topic among business schools. As an university we want to educate people that not only seek for jobs, but generate them. This message is any academic track; one can become an entrepreneur in any economic reality,” stated Ing. Roberto A. Sorto Fletes, Dean, Economics and Business Faculty.
“Why Almas? We were aware of her international recognition as an authority in this topic. Her working history, core values and her ideas made her perfect suitable to address our students. Last but not least, she emphasizes the importance of gender inequality and the deep and long lasting effects over society of empowering girls. We would like to thank Canada’s Embassy for helping us make this possible,” said Ing. Roberto A. Sorto Fletes, Dean, Economics and Business Faculty.
Almas stated: “The careers of the future are going to evolve from where they are today; the challenges of the future cannot be solved with the skill-set of yesterday…But one thing is certain: no tool is, nor will be, more important to success than education.”
“With education you can be empowered, become an economic actor in your community, expand your potential, and the potential of your community. There could be a young man or woman in this room who will develop the next big technology. Because you are brilliant? Well, of course. But also because you have a different way of thinking through your access to education,” Miss Jiwani added.
Almas concluded: “It is also important to note that “the future” does not simply refer to your individual futures: it is our collective future which is in your hands. Each of you has taken the first important step by educating yourselves. You now have a responsibility to seize this opportunity of education to make the world a better place, for your future, and future generations. By also educating yourselves on important global issues, such as XXXXXXXX, you are taking an important step towards fulfilling that responsibility. An informed awareness and understanding of the complexities of the issues that are prevalent and critical in our world is a crucial part of your journey towards making sustainable change for your generation, and the generations to come.”
