HSINCHU, Taiwan, Nov. 28, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Asia Pacific Metrology Programme (APMP), a grouping of national metrology institutes from the Asia-Pacific region, held its 34th General Assembly and related meetings in Singapore on November 28. On the same day it presented the 2018 APMP Award to ITRI Senior Vice President Jia-Ruey Duann in recognition of his contributions to the organization. Over 350 representatives from Taiwan, Australia, Japan, Korea, and other member economies were in attendance for this major annual event.
Dr. Duann was selected as the winner of the 2018 APMP Award for his long-term contributions to the metrological community. He previously served on the APMP Executive Committee, helping to promote global developments in metrology and enhance Taiwan's technology R&D achievements. Dr. Duann has been instrumental in leading ITRI to build metrology capacities to respond to industry demands, for instance, introducing the cutting-edge SuperSizer nanoparticle monitoring system to Taiwan's semiconductor sector. In addition, in 2010 he established the International Commission on Illumination (CIE)-Taiwan and successfully promoted ITRI's entry into CIE, which helps to extend standards for lighting-related industries.
Dr. Duann expressed his appreciation for the recognition by APMP and thanked ITRI's metrology team he used to lead for being involved in fostering the development of standards, technical regulations and measurements, as well as forging metrological technology cooperation among the Asia Pacific region through APMP. Dr. Duann said ITRI will continue to serve as a bridge between Taiwan and the international community to promote measurement and metrology standards that will underpin the development of industry and bolster industrial competitiveness.
APMP, one of the five Specialist Regional Bodies under APEC, provides a platform for member economies throughout the Asia-Pacific to discuss the latest topics in metrology and develop technologies aligning with international measurement standards. Dr. Duann plays a vital role in helping ITRI join APMP in 1992, following which ITRI has annually been an active participant. The APMP General Assembly was held in Taiwan in 1994, 1999 and 2013, assisting developing nations in the Asia-Pacific to establish measurement systems and boost their technology capability, while ensuring the regional consistency and reciprocal recognition of international standards.
