Program Features Comedienne/Actor Kym Whitley, Business Leader Melody Winston, Community Activist Sandra Ramos, and Entertainer Di’ta
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 07, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The second season of the television franchise Women on the Move continues in 2019 with more inspirational and aspirational stories for audiences everywhere. 3LF Entertainment producer Darryl Pitts directs the quarterly documentary celebrating the achievements of women in a wide variety of industries and sectors including business, philanthropy, entertainments, fashion, sports, and technology.
In February, Women on the Move recognizes Black History Month by highlighting the following notable women of color entertainers and community leaders:
Kym Whitley has established herself as a go to comedic actress in movies as diverse as “Next Friday,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and on her own reality television series “Raising Whitley.” Audiences will see the serious side of Whitley as she speaks about the sometimes-tumultuous journey as an actress, motherhood, and the challenges of single parenting.
Melody Winston bears a last name familiar to Chicagoans as the oldest daughter of Bill Winston, pastor of one of the largest churches in the city of Chicago Living Word. Her connection to Chicago greatness doesn’t stop there as her maternal grandfather and his brothers were all doctors and established one of the first medical centers in the country.
Winston, a licensed pilot like her father, handles her business in the air as VP of Golden Eagle Flight Academy, a flight program for children from underserved communities on the base where the historic Tuskegee Airmen, lived and trained.
Sandra Ramos founded the first women’s shelter in the United States with her three children in 1970. Word of her generosity grew, and women from all over the county sought her help in a time when no options were available for battered women. Ramos has been at the forefront of issues facing women while fighting against local government for zoning infractions based on exceeding occupancy limits in the early years to the ongoing challenge of finding money to provide assistance for women in need.
Today, Ramos operates three facilities and continues to battle for human rights across the country.
Di’ta was pronounced dead on the scene of a tragic apartment fire that claimed the lives of her two siblings when she was seven months. She was miraculously resuscitated at the hospital later. Di’ta’s mother suffered a nervous breakdown afterwards leaving her to fend for herself before finally moving in with family members. She would finally be reunited with the firefighter that saved her life thirty years later on the day of his retirement party.
Di’ta is currently a singer and stage actress who has performed around the world in productions from Tyler Perry and TD Jakes. She has toured with Gospel music legend Edwin Hawkins and featured in a commercial with Fleetwood Mac.
