NEW YORK , Feb. 19, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Quin Central Park by Hilton Club, located at 57th Street and Sixth Avenue, recently announced the launch of the sixth season of its acclaimed “Quin Arts” program, which has brought a diverse and inspiring series of artists to the midtown hotel.
During 2019, the Quin Arts program will feature the work of four compelling artists in quarterly exhibitions. The season opens on Thursday, March 21, with an exhibition featuring the work of French and Senegalese visual artist and photographer Delphine Diallo. Curated by DK Johnston and Nicole Ianniello, the exhibition highlights Diallo’s remarkable portraits and draws from work created during her far-flung international travels.
Delphine Diallo graduated with a master’s degree from the Académie Charpentier School of Visual Art in Paris before working in the music industry as a special effects motion artist, video editor and graphic designer. In 2008, she moved to New York to explore her own practice. Diallo was mentored by acclaimed photographer and artist Peter Beard who offered her a role collaborating on a Pirelli calendar photo shoot in Botswana. Inspired by new environments on this trip, she decided to return to her father's home city of Saint-Louis in Senegal to start her own “vision quest.” Since that time, Diallo has traveled to a range of remote locations, creating stunning portraits in areas ranging from Mongolia, Senegal and Thailand to her work with Native Americans in Montana.
All four Quin Arts presentations in 2019 will be solo exhibitions featuring the work of inspiring female artists.
“We’re setting out to present engaging art - not to make a social statement – but I’m pleased that we’ll present an entire year’s worth of programming devoted to superbly talented women at a time when gallery exhibitions remain dominated by male artists,” says Johnston.
Wherever she can, Diallo combines artistry with activism, pushing boundaries to empower women, youth and cultural minorities through visual provocation. Women in her photos are often depicted as strong, independent and fearless. Diallo uses analog and digital photography, collage and illustration, 3D printing and virtual reality technologies as she continues to explore new mediums. Her photography has appeared in outlets including The New York Times, New York Magazine, Time, Vogue Italia, Smithsonian Magazine and a host of others, while commercial and celebrity clients have ranged from L’Oreal, Nike, and Tumi, to Chris Rock and J Cole, among others.
Diallo’s photography has appeared in recent exhibitions including, No Commission Berlin, Curated by Swizz Beats and the Dean Collection, Germany (2017); Unseen Photo Fair, Red Hook Lab Gallery, Brooklyn, NY (2016); “Looking for America,” Diffusion, Cardiff International Festival of Photography, Wales (2015); Photoquai, 5eme Biennale des images du monde, Musee du quai Branly, Paris (2015); Intangible Beauty, Part I & II, Kasher Potamkin Gallery, New York (2014); Portraits by Delphine Diallo, Curated by Jamel Shabazz, Photoville, Brooklyn, New York (2014); Harlem Postcards, Studio Museum of Harlem, New York (2014); Emerging Visual Art & Music in a Post Hip-Hop Era, Museum of Contemporary African Diasporic Art, Brooklyn, New York (2013); and Freedom Ride, Brooklyn Academy of Music, New York (2013). Diallo is also the author of the art photography book, The Gift, published in 2012.
In the course of her work, Diallo immerses herself in the realm of anthropology, mythology, religion, science and martial arts. She insists on spending intimate time with her subjects in order to be better able to represent their most innate energy. Diallo’s powerful portraitures provide insight that allows her audience to see beyond the façade.
