Toronto, Feb. 25, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The work of a Seneca graduate was recognized at the 91st Academy Awards in Los Angeles last night. Seneca Visual Effects for Film and Television grad Zacary Campbell worked as lead compositor on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won Best Animated Feature. Campbell’s role included layering visuals for the film and assisting other artists on his team.
Campbell credits the training he received at Seneca for providing him with a solid foundation of skills as well as a strong work ethic.
“Seneca helped me to realize what I wanted to do for a living,” said Campbell. “Before Seneca, I never dreamed that I would have a career that allowed me to travel around the world and work on movies. Winning this award is not only an honour, it also validates that all of my 50-hour work weeks have paid off.”
Seneca's School of Creative Arts and Animation, within the Faculty of Communication, Art & Design, has been at the forefront of developing Canadian talent for more than a decade, many of whom go on to work on critically acclaimed films. Several other Seneca alumni, including Brendan Beesley, Graham Finley and Deanna Marsigliese, worked on Incredibles 2, which was also nominated for Best Animated Feature this year.
“It’s always exciting to see Seneca students go out and achieve their dreams,” said Mark Jones, Chair of Seneca's School of Creative Arts and Animation. “It’s all the more rewarding when their work is recognized on the world stage.”
